Bangladesh Environment and Development Society
WHO WE ARE

 

The Bangladesh Environment and Development Society is a community based non-profit, non-government and development organization committed to maintain ecological balance and create harmony between humans and nature. BEDS was registered as an NGO from the NGO Affairs Bureau, Government of Bangladesh.

 

BEDS was established for solving complex environmental and social problems in Bangladesh such as the adverse impacts of global warming, unsustainable use of natural resources, drinking water crisis, Sundarbans mangrove ecosystem and biodiversity destruction, increasing uses of dirty energy, gender inequity and human rights violation etc.

 

BEDS has been working on Environment and Ecosystem; Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation; Clean/Solar Energy; Livelihood; Gender Development; Health and Sanitation; Women and Child Rights; Wildlife Conservation and Protection since 2010.

 

BEDS has completed more than 50 projects and received the following prestigious awards: Energy Globe National Award in 2018; Annual Balipara Foundation Award in 2018; Divisional Environmental Award in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015; Top20 District Development Award in 2018. In addition, one of the BEDS implemented projects “Eco Village in Bangladesh” has been selected to be showcased at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Global Best Practice Program.

Co-Founder

Md. Maksudur Rahman

Mr. Rahman is out and out an Environmental Activist. He has a long working experience on environment and development sectors. More than 50 projects have been completed under his leadership. He is a dynamic person on Sundarbans mangrove flagship ecosystem conservation together with local people. He has completed Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Honors and Master of Science (MSc) in Zoology from National University, Bangladesh. He got 12th fellow of EPLC (Eco-Peace Leadership Center) from Kangwon National University, Republic of Korea. He also completed International Course on Building Resilient Communities: Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) from International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR), Philippines. He has published more than 10 books and several articles. He participated several national and international forum, conference, seminar as a guest speaker and presenter. He received Annual Balipara Foundation Award in 2018 as the recognition of his superb grass-roots leadership.
